Many moons ago, when I was about 8 or 9, my mother was brought me to Thomson Yaohan to purchase a birthday gift for my cousin. We had our sights on purchasing the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle toy for my cousin. Being the charming youngest son, I was able to convince my mother that it was only fair that I too get a toy since my cousin was getting one (This was, in actual fact, my agenda all along). Do note that this was the period where the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were all the craze (yes, I am that old).
I had set my sights on purchasing my favourite character Raphael (the mutant turtle sporting red eyebands), and proceeded to purchase the less popular (amongst my peers) orange-garbed Michealangelo for my cousin.
Upon the revelation of the toys, my dear cousin decided that he too wanted Raphael, for, that character also was his favourite. I initially sulked badly at the idea of him taking away my Raphael, for I had long yearned for this toy. My mother, the dear that she was, contributed to this mini disagreement between my cousin and I, by duly emphasising that it was after all his birthday, and that I should be good boy and listen to her (of course her eyes were glazed with the forewarning of things to come should I fail to do so).
I ultimately ended up with Michealangelo, and my initial displeasure quickly turned into a quest to find out more about this character and his strenghts, and also about the uses of the weapons this character uses (the inferior-perceived nunchaku).
Eventually I grew to love the toy, and the character which is Michealangelo, in spite of his monicker of being a "party dude". I chose to like this character, and stick with it, and even informed my friends and cousins that my favourite turtle has always been Michealangelo.
After a while, it ceased to be a choice.
